Exorcism Myths

Myth#1:     Priests and other clergy are the best qualifed to perform exorcisms. Not necessarily true.  For starters, it is usually extremely difficult to find anyone in the church to take your problem seriously, never mind finding anyone who is actually "qualified" do deal with the problem.  Most churches don't even consider house/property hauntings as something that is legitimate.  Those that do may be able to deal with general hauntings or some psychic disturbance, but cannot handle more dangerous entities such as phantoms. Myth#2:     If I am being harassed by dark entities in my home, I should get in                    contact with a ghost-hunter/paranormal investigator. Good thought, but how will that actually help you?  All that most ghost-hunters are able to do is to detect the presence of ghosts (spirits, phantoms, energies, etc.) in a given place.  They may have conducted extensive research and even have considerable experience witnessing psychic phenomena, but the considerably vast majority do not have the know-how or even physical/mental/spiritual ability to clean a place of negative psychic influence (and keep it from returning!).  It's much like a tornado-chaser; they can find and track the tornado, tell you all about what it's doing and maybe even where it is headed and what it might do next, but they don't have the power to stop it or even affect it at all.

Myth#3:     If I suspect my house is haunted, I should call a psychic into my home. This may or may not work, depending on the level and ability of the psychic and their particular Universal station.  Many people do not truly understand what it means to be "psychic" --everyone is psychic to some degree.  Most people who advertise themselves as "psychics" are just simply more sensitive to psychic/metaphysical phenomena than others.  But just because a person is sensitive (can see, hear or even "channel" ghosts, sense presences or see into the past/future) does not in itself mean that they are equipped to banish spirits.  A true "exorcist" is a specific kind of being who has been given special gifts (and has trained extensively) enabling them to command spirits to do their bidding.  That is their Universal station.  Much like a tone-deaf person is not a singer, or a person with no rhythm a dancer, a psychic who doesn't have those very specific abilities is not truly an exorcist. *A special note about inviting people into your home:  you absolutely MUST be sure that the person/persons you invite into your house have your best intentions at heart!  Inviting someone into your home who causes conflict in any way, who may wish you ill-will or who just doesn't respect the sanctity of your home invites that energy with them and can actually cause the reverse of what you want to happen--that very energy can wreak havoc in an already unstable environment and can create a dangerous situation!

Myth#4:     Anyone can perform an exorcism if they read the proper books about it.                    I can exorcise my own home! NOT TRUE!  This way of thinking can be extremely dangerous.  There are many publications out there claiming to be able to teach the average interested person how to perform exorcisms and house blessings.  There are many people out there who think that, just because they have a little sensitivity and maybe know some things about exorcisms that it makes them qualified to perform one.  This could not be farther from the truth!  As we have already stated above, it takes a special type of person to be able to do this kind of work.  Interest and psychic ability alone are simply NOT enough! Even being endowed with these gifts does not necessarily make a person qualified to withstand the rigors of, and put forth the intense energy required to perform an serious and complete exorcism.  Someone who is able to effectively undertake such a task must have years of experience (generally under an older, well-seasoned teacher) and a very high level of discipline.  Any person who is endeavoring to perform an exorcism, though they may be extremely tallented and possess all the necessary gifts, can often create a dangerous situation if they have 1) not been properly trained 2) are undisciplined and subject to emotions (their own and the emotions of others) or 3) just plain don't have the proper life experience and tutelage.  No matter what anyone tells you, there is no way that a person in their teens or twenties has the life experience or discipline to perform an exorcism by themselves. Myth#5:     But the person is a certified exorcist! This is not necessarily reliable, especially with the ever-increasing ease of obtaining certifications over the 'net.  Refer to Myths #4 and #5.
