The Ass Bus Awards – Introduction

A woman came in to our store one day for a reading, and she had a tattoo on her arm of some Arabic writing. Zakhuur commented on the design and asked what it meant. “About that…” she said, and proceeded to tell him the story of her mark.

One day she decided, as so many young women do nowadays, that she wanted to get a tattoo. So she visited her local tattoo parlor and looked through the designs they had to offer. Not knowing from the outset exactly what she wanted, she spotted the pretty Arabic symbols amongst the various “tribal” designs and Chinese characters, and asked what it was. “It means Desert Rose” she was told. Thinking she would be cute, and perhaps a little “exotic”–and most certainly unique–she decided that design was what she wanted permanently etched into her skin, and got the ink done. Delighted with the result, she went forth into the world to flaunt her new uniqueness.

Awhile later (perhaps weeks, perhaps months, no one is completely sure) she found herself in the presence of someone with an interest in her tattoo (after all, isn’t that the real purpose for getting one?). He gestured toward it with a look of confusion and asked, “Why do you have that on your arm?”. “It’s Arabic” she responded, smiling. “And it means Desert Rose”.

“I’m Arabic” the man replied. “And that right there says Ass Bus”.

In the spirit of the woman in this story, and many others like her all over the world, we present to you the Ass Bus Awards.

The Ass Bus Awards are to honor those in society who, in their feeble attempts to be different (different just like everyone else), find themselves caught in the stupidity of their own uninformed decisions.

Many want the extra attention associated with being a little different or rebellious, but don’t have the courage to go full-out and be truly unique. So they follow the crowd and do what they think is safe. Most often they just wind up looking dumb.
